The Challenge
Traffic signal management relied entirely on physical inspection. When a signal malfunctioned or needed timing adjustments, operators dispatched a crew, drove to the site, and diagnosed the problem in person — an expensive, slow cycle that compounded across a network of hundreds of intersections with no visibility between visits.
Smart City came to us with a bold brief: make the entire signal network visible and operable from a browser. The platform needed to sync live with physical traffic controllers, stream video from embedded hardware units, and give operators a single interface to see every intersection in real time — from anywhere in the world.
The Solution
A custom-built control platform connecting Raspberry Pi hardware embedded in traffic controllers to a live visual dashboard — with real-time signal sync, uninterrupted video streaming, and remote access from any browser, anywhere.
Live Signal Dashboard
Built a visual UI that syncs with physical traffic controllers in real time, showing signal states, timing cycles, and network status across every intersection from a single browser-based interface.
Remote Video Streaming
Integrated live video feeds from Raspberry Pi units installed inside traffic controllers, viewable from anywhere in the world with no buffering — giving operators eyes on every intersection without leaving their desk.
Custom Hardware Integration
Connected physical traffic infrastructure to the software platform through a custom communication layer built in PHP and JavaScript, enabling remote visibility and control capabilities that did not previously exist in the field.
